Weekend on the Farm

We had a great weekend at the Myers farm in northern Missouri. Grandma Pam drove up from the south and met us there. Our 3 day weekend was filled with puppies, fishing, and frog-catching. We had fun picking bucket loads of grapes off the vine, stripping them, and sending them to the kitchen, where Aunt Sarah made jar after jar of homemade grape jelly. We snapped baskets of green beans, and she made them into delicious cans with bacon and onions, ready to be enjoyed throughout the year. Every fruit tree was ripe with abundance. We ate peaches dripping with rivers of juice, crisp, tart apples, and soft sweet pears, still warm from the September sun. Whitey celebrated her 5th birthday with a weenie roast and a 4-hour nap; the kids braved the cool weather and frolicked happily between the pool and the hot tub, while Maize's latest pups frisked in the flower beds. It was a great respite from life in the suburbs, surrounded by the family and love.
